Your Artist In Chief, Stacie Braford.
About the Rock Solid Mamas
Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my grandmother, learning to sew, crochet, cook…all amazing arts within themselves. I watched my mother make a home, grow a garden, care for my ailing stepfather – again, all a fine art, involving skill and balance.
Even though I am a published writer, have a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art, play several musical instruments, and have won awards in National Songwriting competitions, I have never thought of myself as an “artist” – more as a dabbler, as I’ve never really honed in on a specific medium.
I’ve spent the last year or so working toward my master certification in energy healing, working with Reiki, crystals and other modalities. This sparked a creative blitz that has led me to work on multi-media pieces that incorporate crystals, energy infusion, acrylic, alcohol inks, fiber, clay and whatever happens to be handy.
I find working with clay particularly therapeutic in the process – moving and shaping, the pliability and innate strength, while still being able to maintain a sense of fragility. There is something powerful about holding the finished piece in your hands, transcending the mere visual pleasure of a photo or painting and adding a tactile element to the experience.
My innate love of color and shiny things will show in my work. It can be frenetic and frantic, or soothing and soft. It’s part of what I love about the adventure of creating: the “BEING” in the moment and the emotion.
I‘m currently at work on a series of pieces called Boireannach, that celebrates being a woman, and being empowered in that existence when there seems to be so much negative mojo being kicked through the universe.
I find purpose in being able to share healing, beauty and joy with those around me, whether I’ve known them a lifetime, or only a fleeting moment.
